Installed sites can see Notifications in Linkar MANAGER when new releases and component updates are available. Announcements are also made in the blog, website, forum, Twitter, and by email.
If you have the switch Check Kosday server for Linkar Updates activated, when you log in, Linkar MANAGER will look for the latest updates and will add a "Notifications" message in the upper area of Linkar MANAGER.
As developers, we at Kosday understand well the pain of updating components across a distributed topology. All of these things are difficult: Moving files into different DBMS servers; Coordinating client/middle-tier/database updates; and Keeping users connected while some clients have a different version than servers. This is compounded in our development and your administration when there are so many combinations of databases and operating systems in the list of Supported Platforms. It is further compounded when a one-size-fits-all solution cannot be offered, since different environments have different requirements for access to the operating system, network connectivity, etc. We are working on this challenge, to create solutions for each recognized topology and use-case. In Summary, we're proud of the Linkar Installer, but there is a lot more to do. We appreciate your patience, collaboration, and support. Your comments on this topic would be greatly appreciated: Support@Kosday.com
While most configuration details do not, or should not change between versions, it is possible that a few may. For a production environment, as all developers, we try to ensure that configuration file details are not lost or over-written during an upgrade.
For Beta testing, we need to know if a new version is incorrectly updating configuration files. If a configuration from a prior version contains a field that is not maintained by a new release, we may not be aware of this regression detail until someone installs into a completely new environment. This is why we recommend a complete uninstall and reconfiguration for Beta testing. Please keep such considerations in mind when testing different releases.
