Each OS has default security settings. Each user installing and running software must have permissions to access folders and files, and to run services. Background tasks that start and stop services must have permissions to do so.
Firewall permissions must allow TCP socket connections from clients to servers.

A server needs to run services under a user with adequate permissions. That user must be able to read/write Linkar configuration files, logs, and statistics.
A network client must be allowed to connect outbound to a configured Port, and a network server must allow inbound connections on that Port.
The servers may need to be changed to run with specific user permissions that allow sockets to be opened. The /etc/hosts file in the workstation and/or server may require editing to allow references by name, or to associate names and IP addresses. Or, the site DNS might need to register the systems.
